About Palate
Palate is a food discovery and social dining app, built for iOS first. It connects the meals you enjoy to restaurants, dishes, cuisines, and people worth discovering.
Why we're building it
We want a more personal and social way to find a restaurant and plan a meal — the job people usually take to a review site or a booking site. What you have enjoyed, how you eat, and the people joining you should all shape the recommendation.
A good recommendation should leave you feeling understood, curious, adventurous, and confident. It should carry a reason you recognise, with enough explanation to trust it and more detail when you want it.
Learning your palate
Connections between foods can give you a reason to try a dish or a cuisine you would not have thought to look for. Food research supplies those connections, and feedback from real meals helps us improve them. We would rather say what we know than invent certainty to make a suggestion sound better.
Eating together
Profiles, groups, and discovering other diners are part of the product, not an afterthought. You can plan with a group's tastes in mind or work it out together in one conversation with Palate Assistant; when preferences clash, it asks about a compromise rather than assuming everyone agrees.
Where things stand
Palate is in development, starting in San Francisco. The current app includes dish ratings, restaurant discovery, menu scanning, dining groups, and the Assistant. A broader social network, shared group conversations, and deeper restaurant coverage are what we are building toward.
